Hollywood Forever Cemetary – Los Angeles, CA

As a goth, your duty is to visit the grave of Vampira at Hollywood Forever Cemetery – Photo by Coco Mault

Let’s start with Los Angeles as the first stop on this cemetery tour.

After a night of dancing at the amazing Hollywood goth clubs, you can visit Vampira’s grave at Hollywood Forever Cemetery.

But make sure you’re wearing your most comfortable combat boots because this cemetery is huge!

Not only does it have countless outdoor graves, but it also has 2 massive indoor mausoleums filled with old Hollywood movie stars.

Hollywood Forever Cemetery even hosts regular movie nights with screenings of classic films during their Cinespia events. BYOB.

Next, we are heading to where our favorite goth author, Anne Rice, found inspiration for her famous novel “The Mayfair witches”.

Lafayette Cemetery #1 is the oldest city-owned cemetery in New Orleans and features above-ground tombs amidst lush tropical landscaping.

You may remember seeing it in Interview With a Vampire, American Horror Story, and Dracula 2000.

And while you’re in town, be sure to visit some of the other famous US cemeteries in New Orleans such as St Louis Cemetery #1 – final resting place of the infamous Voodoo Queen, Marie Laveau.

Bonaventure Cemetery – Savannah, GA

Arguably one of the most beautiful famous US cemeteries, the Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah will make your goth feel like a kid in a candy store.

Originally established in 1846 on the Bonaventure Plantation, it is now the largest municipal cemetery in Savannah since becoming public in 1907.

This cemetery was made famous in the novel Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil and is home to the graves of Little Gracie Watson and Johnny Mercer.

You will love strolling through the weeping Spanish moss trees and seductively draping your body on top of the gorgeous traditional victorian headstones.

Arlington National Cemetery – Arlington, VA

Arlington National Cemetery is gorgeous in the Spring.

Possibly the most famous US cemetery, Arlington National Cemetery features 600+ acres of beautiful, green hills with rows upon rows of headstones honoring our US veterans.

Here you can find memorials for many military heroes and former presidents such as William Howard Taft and John F. Kennedy.

On your trip, be sure to visit the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier which serves as a remembrance of those veterans whose remains have been found but have remained unidentified.

Since Arlington is so close to our nation’s capital, be sure to stop by Washington DC so you can take part in one of the latest protests.

Arlington is frequently ranked as one of the best places to live in the country. So if you fall in love with the place, check out the Arlington Real Estate listings to see what’s available.

Sleepy Hollow Cemetery – Sleepy Hollow, New York

Visit the headless horseman himself at Washingon Irving’s family plot – Photo by Tim Evanson

If you decide to visit Grandma in New York, don’t forget to make a stop at the Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.

I’m not saying Grandma is IN the cemetery… Unless she is, in which case, you should definitely bring flowers.

The Sleepy Hollow Cemetery is known as the final resting place of the “headless horseman” from the classic macabre tale”The Legend of Sleepy Hollow“.

There lies the author, Washington Irving, who is resting in a plot overlooking the creepy Old Dutch Church.

Other famous interments include William Rockefeller and Elizabeth Arden (who may have made your black eyeliner).

You might also recognize this place from The Ramones “Pet Sematary” music video. Ironically their late band members are buried at Hollywood Forever!

And you can be buried here too! Just make sure you take your spooky Instagram photos ahead of time.

Have you been to one of these famous US cemeteries? What’s the coolest cemetery you’ve ever been to?

Those are some great recommendations, thanks for sharing!
In my town’s cemetery there are honouring gravestones to the ones killed in the Hindenburg disaster, Pioneer of Aviation Claude Dornier, and more – I think it’s nice those famous persons are buried/honoured here 🙂

I haven’t really visited many cemeteries. Growing up I’ve heard about the Sleepy hollow one but never went it. I only lived 20 minutes from there too. Maybe I’ll go check it out next time!

I never find cemeteries as cool place to hang out but there must be reasons why these cemeteries are popular.

I’ve never been to any of these cemeteries, or many others for that matter. It would be nice to visit the Arlington National Cemetery.
